The Golden Ratio and Grand Design.

One arguable piece of evidence that points to the possibility of the universe being the product of intellectual design is that of the 'Golden Ratio'.

First introduced to the western world in 1202 by Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, the Fibonacci sequence is an infinite string of numbers where the next number in the sequence is calculated by the sum of the previous 2 numbers.

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34....
xn = xn-1 + xn-2

We see the use of this sequence of numbers in many ways in the modern world. From search algorithms to stock trading, these numbers are used for many different practical applications, but there is one way that this sequence appears all over the place.

The Golden Ratio

Describes the ratio between 2 any 2 consecutive Fibonacci numbers as being perfectly in proportion. This ratio is 1.61803398875
The further down the sequence of numbers the closer they get to this ratio.

What makes the Golden Ratio so interesting is its occurrence in almost everything in nature and even man made.
Across nature we see the GR in things like flower petals, butterfly wings, and tree roots. Is it coincidence or grand design?

Throughout history artists like salvador dali, da vinci and Vincent van Gogh all used this Golden Ratio. We see it also in the music of Mozart and Bach.

Its is also known that many architects have incorporated it into their designs in both modern and ancient times. Its brings to light the question of whether this was all intentional or whether we humans have a natural fascination with this number.

If the golden ratio is embedded in the natural world then it is almost certain that it is a part of our consciousness as well. We unknowingly adhere to this rule as it seem to bring perfect balance to all things. It certainly seems that the universe is the product of intelligent design but maybe this Golden Ratio shows us that from a state of chaos we found a state of perfect harmony. Perhaps the grand designer of the universe was in fact the universe its self.
