If we know the answers to the untold questions, how can we have a discussion?
People don't know how to listen. It is a huge problem. I believe my mom used to tell me this, but I cannot remember correctly because who the hell listens to their parents?
Anyway, try to observe any discussion of two or more people. To be honest, if you can read minds, you might even want to observe how a single person is trying to discuss with himself, but let's not get into that for now. So, any meaningful discussion goes like this: one person is talking, another is listening, right? Sadly, those things never happen. The reality is:
While one person is talking, another one is thinking about their amazing answer. Oh yes, people only mind their own business and rarely do someone actually wants to listen instead of trying to push their ideas through.
If you want to call me an ignorant bastard who only criticize people, go one... I am not defending - I am an ignorant bastard. However, I also have guts to say that I don't know to listen as well. I am trying to learn, but seriously - whenever I am talking with someone, instead of listening to what they have to say, I am thinking about what I will reply. That is quite sick, isn't it? It even takes us away from the present if you think about it.
So, I came to a conclusion that we, humans, are actually robots who are programmed to have some shitty answers to every single question in the world. We don't need to listen anymore because we already know what we will answer anyway. We don't need to learn new things because we feel that we know it all already. And even when we pretend to listen, we don't. At least, I don't... Most of the time. Think about yourself now, do you know how to listen? Rewind your last conversation and remember how many times you actually thought of an answer because your partner finished speaking. That is dreadful, isn't it?
42

And by the way, I was such a terrible listener I was already thinking "42" before I finished the end of the article! ;)
I remember having a conversation with a lady, she kept asking me questions and then when I would reply she'd cut over me , nodding her head and saying "I know I know". Obviously the way she lead many of her conversations, kinda funny. I don't think she was a robot though.
Hmmmmm. My one was a reference to the Hitch-Hikers guide to the Galaxy, the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Is your table a random word to see my random number or is there a clever reference hidden there? Both are valid :)
Thank you for a great post, I like it!
"The map is a metaphor for our belief system, values and principles (How we view the world), the map of the world we have in our minds is not the real world but just a reflection of our beliefs. Each person has a different reality, based on the fact that we all have different maps and ways to view the world. Most people (or all of them), instead of interacting with the world, interact with their map."
We all sure we are right.
Please check my new post, I think you will like it!
@paps
Yup, you are totally right with that quote! That makes everything so much harder, tho. How can be one truth if there are so many different views on it?
The question in the title is very deep and responds very intelligently. Thank you!
Yeah..good one.. But you know,I am a good listener..I do respect what people says and then reacts..But I think, its fine if you are planning the answer beforehand..at least you are reacting to it.
IMO, you are reacting when you don't have an answer before someone is finished talking. If you have an answer ready before someone finishes his sentence, you are using some kind of templates.
Exactly ,we try to run away from the situation ..anyway...good day to you..
Very true indeed.
I think that listening itself is a skill that requires practice.
Its certainly not easy.
I also think that when someone truly listens to what you have to say, they are giving you a gift. Sometime it is hard to realize that.
Great observation.
