World Heritage Site Fort Jesus for #architecturalphotography - #photocontests
Internal overview
Fort Jesus - Mombasa, Kenya
It's a Portuguese military fortification covering 2.36 hectares overlooking the Indian Ocean. A well-preserved architectural example included in the UNESCO world heritage.
Designed by Giovanni Battista Cairati to protect the port of Mombasa, in 1593-1596, but occupied several times throughout its history, by the Arabs, Swahili and finally by the British, for its strategical position, a fundamental center for the control of maritime trade.
