Gold Creek Lower Falls
This is a shot of the lower falls along Gold Creek in Golden Ears Provincial Park in Southern BC. I was shocked at how busy this place was when we were there until we asked some people who told us there was a Vancouver 'Socality' instameet happening. I then watched in horror as someone lost control of a two week old drone in the updraft coming off the waterfall which hit an overhanging tree branch and promptly plunged into the falls never to be seen again. We headed out off track into the forest to find some peace from the crowds for a while then came back to take this shot under heavy spray from the waterfall just before dusk with the falls to ourselves. Thinking we were smart for outlasting the crowds we then almost got trapped in the park as unbeknownst to us they lock the gates at 5:30pm sharp at this time of year. Luckily there was still a ranger there who let us though so I did not miss my flight back up North!
The shot was taken on a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM at ISO 100, 20.0 mm, f/16 and 1s exposure time.

Nice photo. I like long exposure photos with water. You get so clean shot with it. And color of the water is amazing.

Amazing capture!!!
Thanks!
Ooooh so pretty!
We're thinking of getting a drone and that is my main fear... @mstafford seems to think he'll do just fine as a drone pilot though so I'll just leave it to him hehe.
That's the thing about the most beautiful places that are relatively easy access... they're always crawling with people to get in the way!! You just gotta be smart... like you were for this shot! Nicely done! Cheers!
Yes true; do a lot of training in a flat paddock across from a beach or lake where its windy so you get used to the wind with easy landings. Waterfalls always have updrafts and spray. It was obvious to most (but not all) that there was a huge updraft coming off the falls!
Visiting waterfalls isn't like it used to be, haha!
At least not the ones close to big cities! Plenty of remote waterfalls up here in Northern BC you can have all to your self.
Very true. :) Someday I would like to "discover" my own waterfall, or at least be the first to take a good picture of one, but when I'm traveling I don't have time to truly explore and have to rely on the internet.
There are lots up here in the backroad mapbooks without any names. Just takes a long drive followed by a long hike to get to them.
I can see it now 'Derek falls' . Golden beer flowing down over white marble cliffs with beautiful nudes splashing in the waters below.
Ha! If there was anything like that in Canada it would have been discovered by now (because of the beer).
Sounds like something Putin could organize for you if you save up enough Crypto !
Probably. Who knows what he's discovered during his shirtless horseback rides through the Russian wilderness.

Thanks for the kind words. I wish you the best of luck on the platform. A short word of warning people don't take well to begging for support on Steemit and often flag the comments or posts as spam. Just say I am a new photographer on the platform and that is normally enough for people to go and have a look.
