Selected Works - Part 1

in #photofeed6 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone!

In 'Selected Works' I am going to showcase some of the interesting / favourite shots from Scotland and share my comments / thoughts / memories about the captured scenes, hope you will like it...

'Supernumerary Rainbow' above Loch Scavaig, Elgol, Isle of Skye, Scotland

A very special moment photographed last year after some rough time in my life when I was going through pneumonia-like virus infection and was stuck in bed for nearly a month. After I recovered enough to go out again I did that early morning trip to Elgol on Isle of Skye hoping to get some shots at sunrise. I remember it was very difficult to leave the bed around 3:00 am but glad I did it as it was one amazing morning! After steep and exhausting hike up the cliffs above Loch Scavaig (I still couldn't breathe properly after the illness) I discovered that despite the promising forecasts it was too cloudy for sunrise. Despite the wind and some rain I decide to wait and see if conditions will improve. After couple of hours spent on waiting and hiking around the cliffs there were several showers passing and the morning Sun finally broke through the clouds behind me allowing multiple rainbows to appear in front of me. It was one of those moments where you can feel the magic and power of nature. From the point where I was standing I could observe how the rainbows first appeared just above water level and then expand and slowly moved towards my position so close that I felt like I could just reach them with my hand, it was surreal experience and I joke that 'I had rainbows for breakfast that morning'!
Rainbow from this shot is called 'supernumerary rainbow' as it is made of few parallel thin rainbows, quite unusual and amazing to observe. This shot got also published in 'The Times' and is one of my all time favourites. I will post few more shots with rainbows from that magical morning some other time...

rannochsunrise.jpg
Lochan na h'Achlaise at winter sunrise, Rannoch Moor, Scotland

Rannoch Moor is a special area with its own character, often cloudy and dark vast open area with several ponds, streams, lochs, plenty of grass and rocks, few trees...
I love winter with snow, frost and ice so last winter in Scottish Highlands was one of the best as it was 'proper' snowy and cold for good amount of time allowing me to capture various winter scenes. This one was taken after another early wake up call and 2,5 hours drive from Inverness to this spot. Everything looked just wonderful - covered in thick frost, ice crystals and fresh snow. The sunrise wasn't the best I've seen but I like the delicate pink-ish tones in the morning sky...

riverfindhornautumn.jpg
River Findhorn in Autumn, Moray, Scotland

As much as I love other Seasons Autumn is my favourite. The palette of colours, the misty mornings, warm light and melancholy in the air... This shot was taken few years ago when I used to live in Forres, Moray area in north Scotland. The River Findhorn turns here and water is very calm, I slowed down shutter speed to create glass-like effect and enhance the reflections of surrounding trees full of Autumn colours, one of my favourite Autumn spots for sure...

bowfiddlesunrise.jpg
'Bow Fiddle Rock' at sunrise, Moray, Scotland

'Bow Fiddle Rock' is one of my all-time favourite coastal and sunrise locations in Scotland. Combination of spectacular cliffs, caves and rock formations, North Sea, crashing waves and the morning sunshine and colours are worth the early wake up and drive. This shot was taken just few days ago when I managed to kick myself out of bed at 3:45 am to be at the spot early enough for sunrise at 6:00 am. It was low tide so I was able to get pretty close to the subject and there were few minutes when the rising Sun broke through clouds and it was just magical...

Thank you for enjoying it @photovisions!!

It's really incredible how varied the selection of your pictures is. If I had to choose a recording, I'd really have a problem. I like all your moments in nature very much!

Thank you @faltermann, there is a vast variety of landscapes around Scottish Highlands and I will share more of it soon...

All your photos are breathtaking @landoflight, and I really enjoy the manner in which you present them and the words you use to describe. Your outdoors 'photo workshop' lifestyle in nature sounds wonderful, and autumn - soon - is indeed the time in Scotland when the light is so good for photography. It's really inspiring to see you share your talent on the blockchain, which will be graced with the addition of such beautiful imagery.
Welcome and thank you!
