The Perfect Sunset (Adventure Story)

in #photofeed7 years ago

We were planning on seeing the sunset at Crown Point, but the unpredictable weather Oregon is known for hit and the clouds rolled in by the time we were on the road. Brenna and I drove on, all the while hoping and praying the clouds would let the sun in before it left for the night. The rain was coming down as we wound are way through the back roads.
The weather was just not going our way.
We get to Crown Point and still have some time to spare before the sunset.
We walked around and saw the pretty view, this was my first time ever going to Crown Point. The house was closed and there we only a few other people visiting. The Columbia River highway far below us had few cars on it. We enjoyed the area but grew restless waiting for the sunset we might not see.

In the distance we saw a ridge and at the very end hanging over the cliff was a flag, an American flag. We decided to see if there was a trail that we could find to get to this ridge. We jumped back in the Jeep and drove down the road along the Gorge. Driving slow to see if we could find the ridge we had seen we saw a trail and a place on the side of the road to park. We grabbed our coats because it was raining again and hit the trail.

We had all but forgot about the sunset we had come see. We had found something else.
We trudged through the mud with wet branches hitting our face's on our quest to find that flag. Climbing higher from the road we could see the forest thinning. Brenna looked mystical with wet hair and the darkness growing.
"wow" Brenna said as we climbed out of the forest and onto the ridge.
The view was breathtaking. We could see so much of the Gorge and the Columbia river stretching out before us.
The ridge we were standing on was only a few feet wide and there was a very large drop off on either side.
You would not survive a fall from this height.
We talked and enjoyed the view for some time, all the while the sun was going down.

This was the sunset through the rain clouds and mist

Although we did not see the sunset we imagined this experience was unforgettable.

To us, we would not change a thing
