SEAPHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST - WEEK 28 - Sea and animals

Stellar Sea lion-3.jpg

Lots has been written as of late about BC's coastal pinnipeds and their impact on the Herring Fishery that happens each year along this coast. All sides of this debate have put in their two cents. Some advocating for a sea lion cull due to their impact on the herring stocks while others are looking to decrease fishing of the herring.

I have spent many years living and working up and down this coast and this issue is one very close to my heart. These animals were here long before we were and being at the top of the food chain like we are we are the ones who are the stuarts of this planet and all its inhabitants. It up to us to care for it and not negativity impact the environment by wiping out fish populations or laying blame on other animals just trying to survive. We has humans need to do better, we are smarter and can create ways and technology help the planet and not destroy it further.

There are ways to sustainably fish, it time to put those into practice and coexist with all creatures in a positive way.

Thanks for reading.
