let it go, February

in #photofeed5 years ago

I rode the commuter rail and lost my brother’s student pass. After days without so much as a second glance, a conductor we’ll call ‘Shannon’ confiscated the metro card from me, on the basis of fraud and misuse. A moment like this reminds me that everything in life is a lesson. Even more fitting, the early morning thoughts I felt moved to pencil down ‘see’ much more than meets the eye.

“Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed, that is. Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” – Master Yoda

Wednesday, earlier this morning

We live in perilous times, yet fortune favors the prepared – some may wonder how to survive in a world with such poor influence. There’s no question – I must blanket the gambler – stop spending your my resource to reap what others sown. One hundred thousand followers felt impressive as I see a young woman post selfies – but I am just as pleased to have one dedicated person continue to like, ‘reblog’, curate and comment on my work after so many years.

I do not need more stuff. I despise cleaning, lose items with little effort and find hidden treasures, only years later. Yet a new colorway of sneaker begs my attention, nostalgia longs for older game consoles, and I eat everyday – why not buy food daily?

“How comes you are so terribly starved?”

Even a photographer, being an artist, can fall into a haughty nature, begging why the people have no recognition for their work. Perhaps only today’s contemporaries – as its with complete certainty, masters of their craft never sought praise, only the craft itself. The more I do without, it’s clear I have more than I know what to do with.
