Life in my backyard - Part 1: Snails

in #photography8 years ago

Yesterday i was walking around in my backyard and found a snail house with a completely dried up snail inside it.
It had probably lain there the entire day in the burning sun.
I thought the snail was dead, but i had to try to rehydrate him, so i put him on the little fountain and watched what happened.

After about 10 minutes watching him, the only movement being slight growth due to re-hydration, i was thinking i should've documented this, however i didn't, after a while finally at least his eyes came out and he was looking around, but no further movement.
I literally sat there for half an hour and looked him straight in the eye as he was looking back, however then suddenly he fell a little less then a meter down on the stone floor.

I picked him up and brought him to the bush where i found him not too far away from, however he didn't move at all, so i sprinkled him and his surroundings wet and that's when i started taking pictures.

It was evening and i noticed several snails came from under that bush towards my lettuce (which i don't mind).

Anyway, back to the main character of this story, since there wasn't much activity at the location i put him at, i brought him to a piece of wilted lettuce where a lot of other snails also were aiming for.
There he became more active..
First he seemed to be eating a little and then he decided to do his plumbing, apparently he had a lot of bagage in that house of his.

And here's the end result:

And of course the snail lived happily ever after.

I intent to make a couple more posts showing the other life in my backyard over the next few days, if your interested follow me and ofcourse an upvote (and resteem) is always welcome.

As a bonus i'll add this bee sucking a flower:

Thanks for checking this out.

Are you trying to get rid of the snails? Have you ever done the beer bait snail trap? Just grab a bucket - poor a can of beer in it - leave it overnight... you'll have snails up in there like crazy. Snails are so destructive for my plant life vegetation that I continually find ways to get them out.

No the snails are welcome, i would never drown these innocent creatures in a glass of beer.
