Do men pick up flowers?

in #photography7 years ago

Since I work on the computer a lot, I try to spend my free time outside. That usually means I go hiking or cycling. I don't want to miss any opportunity to feel the sun warmth, enjoy the view of the beautiful landscape, the horizontal lines of the fields that surprise me with various colors in different times of the year, an airplane that just took off and is getting smaller and smaller until you can't see it anymore….

All that makes me feel grateful, a sense of appreciation to be witnessing all that happens around me. And it never stops. There's always something going on if you pay attention.

Because of the 2-week rainy weather, I couldn't wait to go out, and as soon as the first sunrays reached the sky the other day, I decided to go cycling.

Usually, when I encounter a flowering lawn, I can't resist to pick up some wildflowers and bring them to my home. It's not a common habit to do this, here in the city, so it always surprises me, when I see other person doing the same.
As I was moving along the river, on a dusty bike-road, trying to avoid the biggest stones on the floor, I noticed an elder man putting a lot of effort to reach that beautiful blossom on the other side of a slope. It kind of reminded me of my grandpa, a bit chubby figure, that casual grey colored »golf« cap and a true determination to reach that flower.

It made me wonder, who is he picking these flowers for? Is it for his long-beloved wife? Or maybe he will put it in a vase on a graveyard and cherish a memory of someone. Could be also a present for his lovely granddaughter, who is celebrating a birthday today. It's possible he just wanted to pick them for himself or surprise that kind neighbor who made him a soup when he was ill.

Whatever the reason was, I am sure it was for a good cause. I love this kind of small but heartful gestures and when someone is attentive to me, it really makes me happy. What about you? Do you like to surprise other people?

Some photos of the beautiful views & nature in my hometown attached below. I figured I miss taking photos, also great inspiration for my art <3
