Women at the Scottish Highland Gathering & Games
The California Bay Area hosts a slice of Scotland every Labor Day Weekend called the Scottish Highland Gathering & Games. The heavy events of the games, involve a number of different tasks that capture the imagination. Watching people throw telephone poles is perhaps the most vivid picture. It is the caber toss, which requires much more than just brute strength. The great part is that many women compete at the games too.
The sheaf toss is one of those events. A pitchfork is used to hurl a bag stuffed with straw over a horizontal bar above the competitor's head.
She has better arms than me. 😅
