Tradition and change: debate between gender roles / Tradición y cambio: debate entre los roles de género

Traditions are not always at odds with changes, and although it may seem contradictory, the inclusion of elements that do not distort its essence, speaks of the dynamism in which our popular cultures find themselves immersed.

The expansion of the participation of promeseras women in the brotherhoods of the Dancing Devils of Naiguatá, is a good example of how cultural traditions are in constant dialogue with the new times, which demand inclusive and equal treatment, where women have gone conquering spaces, also in the sphere of the traditional.

In the case of the Tamunangue, the woman has also been transforming her role in the dance, where traditionally she had been assigned a more demure and submissive role, emulating religious sacredness, in contrast to current development that is more challenging and seductive and that also disputes the power of man, these new characteristics are an important part in the theatrical game that make up these dances today,

The woman punishes until she tames the man who personifies a horse on four legs that represents the wild.

No siempre las tradiciones están reñidas con los cambios, y aunque parezca contradictorio, la incorporación de ciertos elementos que no desvirtúan su esencia, habla del dinamismo en el que se encuentran inmersas nuestras culturas populares.

La ampliación de la participación de las mujeres promeseras en las cofradías de los Diablos Danzantes de Naiguatá, es un buen ejemplo de cómo las tradiciones culturales están en constante diálogo con los nuevos tiempos, que exigen un trato inclusivo e igualitario, donde las mujeres han ido conquistando espacios, también en la esfera de lo tradicional.

En el caso del Tamunangue, la mujer también ha ido transformando su rol en el baile, donde tradicionalmente se le había asignado un papel más bien recatado y sumiso, emulando la sacralidad religiosa, en contraste con desenvolvimiento actual que es más retador y seductor y que además disputa el poder del hombre, estas nuevas características forman parte importante en el juego teatral que conforman estas danzas en la actualidad,

En la foto la mujer castiga hasta domar al hombre que personifica un caballo en cuatro patas que representa lo salvaje.
