Historical Gateway in the Middle of Crowded Street Market Area

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

During my visit to Old Ahmedabad (a city in India), I came across this beautiful Historical Gateway.

According to wiki : "The gateway has three arches which led into a large enclosure, forming the outer courtyard of the palace called Maidan Shah in past, with a fountain and raised terrace in the centre. The roadway in the central opening is 17 feet wide, and that of each side arch is 13 feet wide. It has highly decorated buttresses on the faces of piers between the arches. The height of the arches is twenty-five feet. The terrace on the top of the gateway was formerly roofed over. But in 1877 the gateway was repaired, and the terrace thrown open".

There are so many historical monuments and there is a story behind each one of them also. What are we doing to keep it safe and clean? I felt really bad by seeing this gateway, in between such a crowded market and there is no importance to it literally.

I don't know, to whom should I tell this, that please maintain it properly. At least respect the people who made it, Keep it clean and separate from such markets. So that people can come and visit the place peacefully, see the carving and the wrok done on the walls/pillers.

In this market area itself, there are very small ancient pieces of art, below image is one of them:

This is somewhere on one side of a street, behind the parked vehicles. After reading this I came to know there is a Haveli (Mansion) beside it, that was so roughly managed. Nobody can think its a Mansion there. I don't know if the situations will ever change for these things or not but I can just wish that people will become more responsible and caring towards the gifts that History has kept for us.

I wish we could give more respect to the people who created such pieces.
