| Going uphill again. This time I wanted to follow a stream to find the source. For Roman pagans, a source often was seen as sacred. So, if you are lucky, you can find some Roman offerings. Not that I really expected to find anything, but at least it's a reason to go into the mountains. | Es ging wieder mal bergauf. Diesmal wollte ich einem Bachlauf folgen, um zur Quelle zu kommen. Für die alten Römer war eine Quelle oft heilig. Also findet man dort u.U. römische Opfergaben, wenn man Glück hat. Nicht, daß ich jemals solches Glück hätte, aber es ist zumindest ein Grund bergauf zu fahren. |

| At the moment of these pictures, I was already pretty high up. Strangely, the Patras authorities had chosen this place to put a garbage dump. It didn't seem to be active anymore, only for illegal (?) dumping. Most had been covered up. Interestingly beside a street leading through the landfill were makeshift homes. Not sure whether they were for refugees or whether gypsies were living there. | Als ich diese Bilder machte, war ich schon recht hoch oben. Seltsamerweise hatte Patras ausgerechnet diese Stelle ausgesucht, um eine Mülldeponie anzulegen. Schien nicht mehr benutzt zu werden, außer für illegale (?) Entsorgung. Interessanterweise gab es an einer Straße, die durch die Halde führte, improvisierte Unterkünfte. Bin nicht sicher, ob die für Flüchtlinge waren oder ob Zigeuner dort lebten. |

| Then I found another of these shrines ubiquitous in Greece. Usually if you find one beside the road, it is dedicated to the victim of a traffic accident. | There was no particular dedication. So it might have been put there by a farmer, just to show devotion to his god. Inside were the usual paraphernalia. Not sure, but I think these shrines are called Ikonostásia, Proskinitária or Kantylákia. | Es gab keine spezielle Widmung. War also vermutlich von einem Bauern aufgestellt worden, um seine Gottesverehrung zu zeigen. Bin nicht sicher, aber denke, diese Schreine werden Ikonostásia, Proskinitária oder Kantylákia genannt. |

| The flora here in Patras is truly astonishing. At least for me. I wouldn't have expected to find palm trees, bamboo, cacti or agave growing wild here. This time I even found what looked like banana trees, albeit still rather young. | Die Flora hier in Patras ist schon erstaunlich. Wenigstens für mich. Ich hätte nicht erwartet, wild wachsende Palmen, Bambus, Kakteen oder Agaven vorzufinden. Diesmal fand ich sogar junge Bananenbäume (sahen jedenfalls so aus). |

| But that was it for the sun that day. The clouds at the horizon were just too thick. But it was still bright enough to show some more of the normal air pollution here. I really don't understand why some people keep burning stuff in winter. The air is bad enough with so many people using wood & coal to heat their rooms. | Aber das war es dann mit der Sonne für diesen Tag. Die Wolken am Horizont waren einfach zu dicht. Es war jedoch noch hell genug, um etwas von der hier üblichen Luftverschmutzung zu zeigen. Verstehe echt nicht, warum manche Leute im Winter noch Abfall verbrennen. Die Luft ist schon schlecht genug, weil soviele Leute Holz & Kohle zum Heizen verwenden. |
