A trip to the Cancer Ward at Unitas!
Bonita Suckling, a dear friend phoned me up and asked if I wouldn’t mind helping out a young beautiful vibrant 15 year girl who has osteosarcoma bone cancer.
Gontse is a brilliant drama artist and wants to be a model. I was requested to create a photoshoot and take several photos in different outfits.
Without a doubt, I agreed and was so blessed by Gontse’ attitude, her dream of becoming a model and wanting to go back to school.
I haven’t been around cancer patients since my dad passed away from cancer, which turned my world upside down. When we walked into the ward… I was horrified at the amount of children, babies, little tots that were all in beds, the family area either waiting for treatment or have had treatment. Every different type of cancer in all parts of their bodies.
The sadness, hurt and stress of the parents could be felt as you walked by them, as they sat embracing their little ones trying so hard to be strong for them.
I honor each and every child and parent…. each person that has faced cancer in some form or another either themselves or a loved one. For those who have lost their fight with this dreaded monster….. I lift you up… you have not lost, you fought a brave fight… RIP
For those still struggling… take some inspiration from Gontse’….. be strong and keep fighting.
