Some of my old photography

in #photography6 years ago

Hello fellow Steemians,

I don't know about you, but I occasionally take a look at my early photography to see how much I have improved over the years. It keeps me grounded.

I learnt my photography chops with the Canon EOS REBEL T3i. It is a wonderful camera for beginners and hobbyists alike. I also know a couple of professional photographers who use it very often. It is quite versatile and will give you great results if you take the time to learn how to make the most of it. Even with the kit lens.

The mistake I made at the beginning was to shoot in the JPEG format. It means that my photos were already compressed when I edited them. Needless to say that the processing work was painful as a result. However, with patience and hard work, I managed to get some very decent photos.

Here are some example below.

I used a few of these photos in my first photography book, titled When the Mind Travels: A Poetic Journey into Photography. You can check it out here.

(I will tell you more about my books in the near future.)

My advice to newbies: Shoot in the RAW format! Your image is "pure" or unprocessed and you can edit it to your heart's content without ruining it. This is especially important when there is a risk of strong underexposition or when you have to deal with multiple light sources. Further, shooting RAW allows you to stop worrying about white balance.

I will share more quick tips I have learnt as a self-taught photographer with you later.
