VISIT PORTUGAL_ Leça da Palmeira (LIGHTHOUSE)

in #photography5 years ago

5 minutes from Porto airport is Leça da Palmeira, for many people consider it the most beautiful land in Portugal, in fact it is a very beautiful land with a lot to visit. This is whoever has a flight and wants to go earlier this can be a very good fuguidinha before the flight if you arrive earlier than the scheduled.
It is a land with an incredible avenue with many tourist and historical points to visit.
Today I will talk a little about this land and its monuments.
The land belongs to the district of Porto inserted in the city of Matosinhos.
Unfortunately we don't have a metro in those areas and the only way to get there is by car or bus.

Today I bring you one of the main icons of the Local (lighthouse of leça da palmeira)

I remember that on the avenue right next to the beach there are many places to visit in a space of meters between them which makes the area rich in culture in addition to touristic

The Lighthouse of Leça is one of the thirty lighthouses of the Continent, located in the district of Porto, Municipality of Matosinhos. Lighthouses are infrastructures related to maritime signaling and navigation aid, whose administration, management, maintenance and conservation are the responsibility of the Lighthouse Directorate.

At the end of the 19th century, the need for a lighthouse in Leça or Leixões was already recognized, but it was only in the 20th century, more precisely in 1919, that the plans for the lighthouse would be developed.

The work was directed by engineer José Joaquim Peres and its tower is 46 meters high and 3.5 meters in diameter, being the second highest lighthouse in the country and the last to be built in mainland Portugal.

It started operating on December 15, 1926. It was the successor of the Boa Nova lighthouse that existed between 1916 and 1926. Its entry into operation coincided with the extinction of that lighthouse and the Nossa Senhora da Luz lighthouse, this being the first lighthouse from the Portuguese coast (1761). The Escola de Faroleiros functioned in the facilities of the lighthouse of Leça between 1926 and 1962.

Among other historical landmarks worthy of note, in 1979 he started to control the operation of the lighthouse at the port of Leixões (Breakwater, Molhe Norte and Molhe Sul) and the Felgueiras lighthouse at the entrance to the Douro bar. This was the first telecontrol network to exist in Portugal.

Lighthouse of Leça da Palmeira (Boa-Nova) is still functional today, albeit a monument of industrial archeology. In the north, it was the first electric lighthouse to emerge and in other times it was an aero-maritime lighthouse and headquarters of a lighthouse keeper school.

There are 46 meters of spiral staircase, more specifically 225 steps, but for those who are not in shape there is an elevator to enjoy the superb view that you will find before you. It has an average luminous range of 39 miles.
