I Did Something Scary Today

I did my first ever paid photoshoot! You know I shoot a lot and I have gotten paid for my photos but I have not actually ever done a proper gig of shooting for a client, not until today.

My friend works in security and he mentioned the whole business in Finland is seriously lacking on pictured for training material, even in our police force, and their business wants to be in the forefront to not use shitty blurry phone pics and instead have high quality material both for training and their social media marketing. He asked if I wanted to come and observe one of their training sessions and take pictures and I said yes.

I’ve been asked to shoot many different typed of things but I’ve always said no, because I’m not very confident in my abilities when I’m not in control of all the elements in the photo, but it’s something I need to get over. I bit the bullet and finally said yes to something where I would have zero control over light and people, scary! But I did it and I think I got some okay material, even though the light conditions were very ugly. No natural light and different colour halogens in the cealing, anything but pretty I tell ya!

The picture above is a very fast phone edit, and I probably won’t be showing you any more of the material that I will be making for the company. I have my work cut out for me with the pictures because I need to do a lot of editing for the coloured versions and I have a lot of pictured to go through. I also need to consult with the company on what kind of style they need.

I just wanted to share this with you and tell you why I will be busy with non-steemit related things for a few days.

Very cool! Hope it leads to more gigs for you and could be the start of a new chapter :) well done on taking the leap, sometimes people don't like to get out of their comfort zone, even for a great opportunity

Congratulations friend! Hooray to making money while practicing your hobby!

There is not much artistic expression in photos like this but I still had fun :)

well, if i get it right this is about didactic expression - that could be a harder task than the artistic one. also, meeting a client's expectance with the actual work after having received just a written or said briefing is demanding than realizing your own ideas...

Congrats. I have no doubt you did a fantastic job!

That’s just great!

Thanks, you guys are so supportive♥️

I love martial arts. What style does your friend teach.

It’s not martial arts per se, though the movement do originate from there. It’s practises used when you have to force someone out of a bar, remove them from a festival area or bring down someone with a knife with causing as less damage as possible.

Congratulations.
I've done a few of those for friends, even if I didn't get paid.. but I'd definitely be more nervous if it was a paying client. The light is always an issue with these things as well.
I think this is a good step. The outside world needs your talent :)

When money is involved there is a huge extra pressure. You can't go "I wasn't inspired" or "the light was not good enough" you just gotta make it work :D
