Honestly, there is just too much alcohol at Dragoncon and a lot of the other cons these days to make them anywhere close to what they used to be. Not sure how the massive over-consumption of alcohol started. But, I feel it's ruined geek culture. Used to be you'd go to Dragoncon and have a beer or two in the lobby of the Atlanta Hilton. And maybe you'd go to Trader Vics and have one of those tiki drinks, like a Samoan Fog Cutter, and get buzzed with one drink. But, when the room parties started with people setting up full bars in rooms, well...I noticed the quality of the people and the cons went down as that began to emerge.
