1021 klm/month,on foot.Yeah,on foot! I Conquered the EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO.You could not do it!

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Hey,this is markos,on someone else's story.

I was proud to welcome back my brother akis and his girlfriend maria  who have just returned winners from the El camino challenge which is approximattely 1000 klm on foot.Yeah on foot,in almost a whole month.

I'm here to report their stories! The stories of their  now destroyed walking shoes!

The Beginning

Before taking up the challenge they had board the bus from our home town "katerini" located in the northern part of Greece to head to Macedonia international airport in "Thessaloniki"

Boarded the plane to the French borders and then,it all started!

The el camino passport.you only get the signature from each city you visit IF you make there on time!

THE TRUE BEGINNING

Catching a train to IRUN was the first step from the long trip ahead.

Irun is the first station,a small place in the Pyrenees (depending which route you want to follow, you may begin elsewhere)

The followed path

They decided to follow to "northern path" which is a route by the sea,not considered the easiest one.

Then they continued following the CAMINO PRIMITIVO path, which actually meant that they had to make 25-30 klm a day in order not to be behind schedule.

After days and day of continuing rain, after eating pretty much what ever local store had to sell to them since they had to carry about 20 kilos each which were the essentials the had to stay in "ALBERGUES" that are something that regular hostels feel like 5 star hotels compared ...

Here is some more photos

Equipment used is a NIKON d80 with 18-55 lence

The end

Already saving money and preparing for their next adventure (probably Thailand) they are more than proud and happy about this one and for being able to share this experience with all of you and hopefully we'll be around to  to share more and more.

Feel free to ask anything you like or if you  want more photos of the el camino primitive path!

More photos on his personal site as he is a graphic designer  Ink's Sins

Thanks for taking the time Steemians!
