Eclipse pictures through welding helmet
I was curious how well a welding helmet would work as a solar filter. It turned out to cause weird reflections and made the sun appear to be full even when it was 80% covered.
This last picture is the only one that showed how much the sun was actually covered, I think light was getting in between the camera lens and the helmet making the reflections. The spots on the pictures are most likely welding splatter as my welding helmet has seen better days.
Interesting, cool experiment. Thanks for sharing!
We took pictures, but it just looks like a full sun, even when it was dark! These are better than ours. Thanks for sharing...
I used a welding helmet to look at the eclipse today. Where I live, the eclipse was about 80%, so there was a crescent at the time of most coverage. I tried getting a picture through the helmet lens with my camera, but the camera wasn't up to the task, the light washed out the imaging device.
The glass in my welding helmet wasn't really quite dark enough, but you could look at the eclipse for a short time without a problem.
