History and its secrets. Some so sordid and brutal that knowing them produces irrevocable spasms of terror. Many, unfortunately, have to do with those small 'papal states', comparatively speaking, which, during the Middle Ages, were made up of church-fortresses, which combined the power of the miter with feudal power, with the bishops being little kings in power. One of such cases, similar to the script proposed in the magnificent film by Richard Donner, entitled 'Lady Halcón', took place in this remote corner of that same land of Segovia, where the famous Archpriest of Hita was forever enamored of the charms of a young shepherdess.

Inside these walls, in tiny cells, located in the noble corners near the head of the church, the condemned who entered never again saw sunlight, dying in the most absolute darkness. This was the case, among many others, of a historical figure, Antonio Pérez, who was secretary of King Felipe II and plunged into misery due to a plot organized by the wayward Princess of Éboli and her lover, Juan Escobedo, who fled in a spectacular escape and she was walled up for life in the rooms of her palace in Pastrana.

HAVE AN AMAZING DAY!

Lovely photos @juancar347 - and the black and white does well to amplify the "moodiness" and depth.

As magnificent as old architecture and historical buildings are to admire, I am pretty sure that many, many of their stories are pretty dark actually... though, I suppose we take history... with all its good and bad.
