Desolation: A photographic look into Life and Death in contrast

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Try to imagine that you are the only person left in the entire world, everyone is gone, there is only you... no one else

Before you stand the vast skylines, the world as it was at it's exact moment of death, all around you still, serene.
Void of the dull roar of traffic, empty, there is no life... NOT ANYMORE!

The once busy theater used to draw laughter, sadness, excitement, raw emotion... it now sits idle, waiting  for those sounds to return...

The flags still catch the wind, the power has not yet completely left the now absent arteries of the city streets begging for that one last car to pass through. that one last person to wait to cross the now dead intersections.

A certain warmness catches your eye, inexplicable even devoid of humanity life still carries on... It won't be long before the rust erodes the markings that still hold on to the names of places that once held meaning and joy. left now to be forgotten by all but you... Only you...

The stairs once held the load of workers coming and going from the city hall,  voices have become memories, memories eventually fade and become tarnished...

Now imagine your cries for human contact going unheard unsolicited by the hollow echo of the building, you think you hear faint voices but it is what your mind fools you into believing is there.

The rich colors of the glass catch your eye in contrast to the now fading light of the sun dipping further towards the horizon, somehow it feels normal again...  even though humanity is gone, life still exists... life still carries on...

Oh, what a beautiful day! you remember that your heart still pulses, the world might have stopped turning but here you remain, lingering on in the sunset of what was and what is now... as long as your heart still pulses the world around you is there to keep you company, a silent but constant companion.

You see... life still exists and has meaning... what remains in this empty world is the meaning which you apply to your own self worth...

The world you remember makes a little less sense, doesn't it?... People living in rich houses while the poor wept in the streets begging for survival, property coveted over humanity. feelings buried below by the overwhelming sense to need and desire more so that you may fall victim to the lie that is expectation and steal away from your reality if for but a moment.

One day the pavement will become compromised and eventually erode away pounded by the succession of the rains flooding the streets below. all that remains is you and life thereafter. A life seemingly everlasting if not for the intrusion of time...

A wise man you once remember said, that time heals all wounds. but how could time heal all of them if time erodes a great many things and threatens to strip the earth bare and with it all life? all that is left now is to heal your own wounds...

Do not push time, for time pushes back... Do not dare push! life is the only thing meaningful that comes with time.

At the end of it all, there is only you, you have to comfort yourself and make meaning and sense of your own world, because no matter how desolate it seems there is still life, you can still find joy in your own company.

Thank you!

Concerning these photos, there was a time in my life where I had become homeless and felt as though the world had cast me away, the experience taught me about hope and suffering. from it all I was able to rise up and find my footing in the world, while it was an unsteady trail to walk and there were many dangers involved, many times where I felt invisible, where I was most alone I found myself...
This is something I've wanted to share with you, the reader, the appreciator of these thoughts...
Warmest regards and the hopes that you may never be alone...

Excellent work! Very atmospheric pictures!

thank you Boddihisattva :3

These are beautiful photos!

I'd make sure to check the first one as there seems to be a problem with the way it is displaying.

Haha! No biggie. I only mentioned it because that is the thumbnail so right now it's just blank. You could just remove the first image and leave the rest, come back to fix the formatting later :)

How's quitting fb going?

this is a very heavy side of myself I never expose

Seems you should do it more often because this is the post you've done best at so far :)
