Travel - Trip to Amish Country - Lancaster, PA
So my weekend was a bit interesting. Started with working from home on Friday because, it's a summer Friday (work half day) and i wasnt feeling well (long story short and you will laugh at this, :p a fan got my upper back and lower neck sore).
My Saturday was just okay, nothing special. Me and my wife checked out a few of garage sales around our neighborhood. We were hoping to find few items we'd like to have. Such as, road bike, outdoor chairs and other stuffs we can flip. :p Yeah we watch too much shows on the TV.
Sunday!!! Here's the climax. We drove to Lancaster, PA just to check out Amish Country. The drive wasnt bad at all, about two and half hour from our place and without traffic. We left our house in the morning , picked up the in law and dashed off to PA. We arrived there a little after 11 AM.
Now, for those of you who are interested in learning more or curious about Amish people. I'd suggest you to take a short bus tour. It'll cost about 21 dollars per person and the tour will go about 1.5 hour. It was worth the money and you'll get to learn something. Of course for a shutter bug like me was like... WHEN CAN I START TAKING PICTURES??? WHERE???? Because all i can do was just sitting on the bus.
Anyways, Sundays are really quiet there. Visiting the town between Monday to Saturday is recommended. On Sundays, according to the tour guide, is like their Sabbath day. None of them would be in the farm or their shop doing work. In other words, not much activities. Their typical Sunday's activities are attend church and spend time with their family or community.
Guess what this is? Yes, this is a phone booth. Amish people generally dont keep anything modern in their home. This is how they keep their phone just for emergency purpose.

The highest grade of Amish people are grade 8. Once they are done, normally they would start working. Here is a photo of one room school where students from different grades gather together to study.

Wait. Are those camels?! In Pennsylvania? Wowzers! That would definitely be worth a weekend trip. Would you go back to visit on a day that more people are out working? I love exploring different lifestyles - in real life, not those reality show versions!
@aweinclusive, yes!! Who would expect that right? They also have alpaca. Some of the families breed dear which then sold for to be hunted. They have cows, horses and mules. Guess what, they dont drink cow milk but camel milk instead. :)
I would definitely go back and visit them again on a regular day. A lot of questions inside my head now. Haha.
Oh em gee! So, I am an adventurous eater and will try anything once. Twice if it's good! I HAVE to try camel milk now. I didn't even know it was a thing! LOL!
