Bunkers on the Channel Islands - LessHorriblePhoto

in #photography3 years ago

A group of bunkers on the coast of the channel islands. The channel islands are a small group of islands in the English channel, just off the coast of Brittany. Due to the Gulf stream and the warm water it caries, the channel islands have their own climate that differs greatly from other areas in the United Kingdom. The islands are small, quiet and accessible by foot.

The German army occupied the islands during the second world war and started constructing bunkers and underground facilities in order to turn the Channel islands into a fortress in the English channel.
Luckily, those dark days have passed. However, the bunker's rigid structure makes them very difficult and expensive to remove, and thus they still stand as living reminders of the tragedy that swept across Europe in the mid 20th century.

Today, you can see these bunkers. Some of them are even accessible.

Thank you for stopping by!
