Photography after rain

Hello everyone,

In this post, I want to tell you about a series of photo's I made during and after a spring shower. If you like macro photography, I'd recommend going outside in or after rain, because raindrops are beautiful!

Before you do this, make sure to check if your camera is waterproof. If not, use a cover to prevent the camera from getting wet. I made the mistake of thinking my camera could handle this light shower that was going on outside, and ended up with some 'broken' files: they had some pink stripes. Don't worry, I managed to fix it and my camera still works, but still.

Before I made these pictures, I was inspired by a book on creative nature photography that told me to go outside in bad weather, and that a 'good' picture doesn't necessarily have to be in focus. With this in mind, I went outside in the rain.

I was looking for alternative viewpoints, and found one looking up underneath the Japanese Maple tree. I love the shape and the colour of the leaves. Remember, it was raining, which means my lens got wet because it was pointed directly to the sky. The drops caused a very interesting effect.

The next picture I took was after I found this leave covered in droplets. Keeping in mind the Rule of Three (I will explain this guideline for composition in a future post), I took this picture just before the drop fell down. I have to admit I'm happy with the result.

I'm not the only one in my family who loves the Japanese Maple, so we own more than one (also because we live in a street named after this tree). The next few pictures are of a much smaller Japanese maple. The leaves have a slightly different colour and shape, but I still love it.
The first one is more about these colours and shape. Most of the picture is background and the subject is mostly out of focus, but the colours are so beautiful! Besides, my book on creative nature photography said pictures don't have to be in focus.
The next picture is again about droplets on leaves. I love the contrasting colour of the background, but the droplet could have been more in focus..

The last picture is one of my favourites because it has two droplets right beside each other, hence the title 'twin droplets'. I like the green colour and I'm happy I spotted the droplets.
