Bad taste after voting

in #photography2 months ago

Election day yesterday in Bulgaria.

After I voted in the early afternoon, I called a few friends to have a quick outdoors coffee chit-chat and while waiting them I was reflecting on the (yet another) elections this year.

Somehow I was sure the outcome will leave bad taste in my mouth.

I was right. Bitter and sour.

I am about to compare the elections of Bulgaria and Georgia. Well, let's just say shortly the elections here are a bit better. Maybe more transparent. Still, though, there are many journalist reports about traded votes, manipulations and all sorts of forbidden and illegal activities.

There was even a news about a journalist physically abused for trying to document vote trading.

During the last years, it is always the minorities, one specific minority, that always gets involved into these kind of activities. Years pass by, nothing improves. That minority is intentionally kept poor and badly educated so they have no choice but beg for money and sell their vote.

True, this still happens in a country in EU!!!

The official results will be announced soon, today or in the next day or so and this would be the most fragmented parliament ever. Probably this isn't that bad, as there will be more eyes on the sectors with the most corruption, or just all those parties won't be able to split the "pie" and there will be new elections in 4-5 months.

We are about to see.

So there was my treat, on that photo below, with a cappuccino, sparkling water and a piece of traditional Bulgarian cake.

However, it wasn't quite enough to "fix" the bad election-day-aftertaste.

Oh, you definitely needed that treat, physical and mental support, maybe knowing even yesterday what the outcome would be despite your efforts.
Yesterday an acquaintance wrote: It is not irresponsible not to vote, but it is irresponsible to vote!
I don't know where the truth is. I hope I am wrong, that a government will not be formed again. I won't repeat why😃

I definitely did! :)))

I had my doubts months and weeks before the elections. A nation doesn't change the way it thinks in an year.

Responsibility... nothing to do with elections when illegal stuff is allowed during them and generally remains unpunished.

Perhaps good for EU as those grants that need new laws to be drafted by the parliament.... those money will be spent in other EU countries.

A bit sarcastic, don't mind me :)

A nation doesn't change the way it thinks in an year.

Exactly. Yesterday I found a slogan that was probably created during some of the previous elections in a row. "Bulgarians are small, but at the same time extremely stupid people." I hope this is just some illusion and this is not true. But in the end, every single election shows the opposite. Or just really if the election changed anything it would be banned.

Indeed. The only thing that changes from one election to another is their price. Increasing exponentially, same zero net effect.

Still, have a great day! :)

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

Well, we saw the results of the vote, and they are more than disappointing. But as you wrote above, corruption rules our country. With Russian propaganda and the lack of critical thinking, we have ended up with several pro-Russian parties in parliament. I suspect that in a few months, we will have elections again, and I hope next time people will go out and vote en masse and wisely. We've seen enough of pumpkins, pigs, and nationalists!

True...
No light at the end of the tunnel, if there is an end at all.
It is funny how the most, if not all of those pro-Russian party leaders send their children to live and study in USA and Western Europe. Their deeds speak louder than their words.
No surprise here, they'll do everything for more money and power.

Read it all and feel sad for you. What else can be said.... same shit everywhere! somewhere less, somewhere more. Somewhere it is absolutely cynical and corrupted shit, untolerable... but we live with it :/

Indeed! No doubt, there is corruption everywhere, just the levels of it here are cruel.
Still, people don't care so much and allow it, we're notorious for our patience and lack of proper society resistance to the political bullshit.

I'd say that is a measure of a healthy society, the ability to detect and react to injustice.
