Saturday Fun at the Adventure Science Center (with Moon Rocks)!

in #photography7 years ago

No petrified wood here. These are real, certified moon rocks!

They had to keep them under lock and key. The person responsible for them had to go through a special training and isn't allowed to be more than a few feet away from them.

They were a bit smaller than we expected though.

I had fun today with the family at the Adventure Science Center in Nashville, TN. I took some pictures and a video with my phone and wanted to store those memories on the blockchain. Enjoy!

Are you ready for the full solar eclipse this August? It's coming right through Nashville, and we're set to go camping and enjoy it.

Monet being brave.

Devon found a friend to play checkers with.

Peace, man.

The Sudekum Planetarium from the outside.

The Nashville skyline as we head up to the top of the tower.

Taking a picture with my phone through the looking glass.

The top of the tower.

And another looking glass.

Tsunami!

Is there a doctor in the house?

One of my favorite things to play with here (more in the video below).

Sometimes how I feel after a long week.

This tree was taken out during hurricane Hugo.

Where we watched a special on solar eclipses.

Here's a little video I put together as well.

I hope you also had a great Saturday. Thanks for enjoying mine with me.

Good to see you posting interesting family pics and not declining payout. I think we need to validate posts like this as there are many who will someday be on Steemit who will never care to write a single blog post.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jason. :)

Looks like a fun and educational day for the whole family. We've taken the kids to Cosi and they loved it. We'll have to make a road trip down and check this out. Happy Father's Day!

Back in march we took the kids to COSI! The great thing about it is that my 6 year old was there having a blast but was learning in the same. We had a discussion on the drive home about how much fun he had. He then had an aha moment when he realized he had fun and took knowledge away from the experience. Such a great thing to do for the adventurous kids and the subliminally are learning!

What's Cosi?

Thanks for the father's day wishes!

It's a Science Museum in Columbus, OH. It has tons of "hands on" exhibits & is engineered to be very kid friendly.

Very cool! We'll keep it in mind if we're ever heading through that area.

Whoa 😲 moon rocks? Didn't ev n know you could own those! Great pictures btw, looks like all the kids had a great time^_^. I really like that pyramid looking thing too! Thanks a lot for sharing!

I don't think you can. You have to get certified to even be able to check them out to show for educational purposes and even then you need training and stuff (I was quite interested in all this, so I was asking questions). Even then, they track every person who has them and exactly what they do with them. It's kind of amazing.

whoa! Sounds like a ton of work, but I hope to own some some day!

What a fun way for the kids to learn about science - being hands on and having the activities really does engage them rather than a school textbook.

We school at home and even though it's summer, they are always learning! :)

Looks like a blast! We have a similar science center in St. Louis I love to check out when we take trips up North. May have to head to TN and check this one out next!

I may have been to that one! We've done a bunch of road trips with the kids and usually find some cool place to stop and learn.

Fun and learning at the same time...perfect weekend for kids...I'm sure you guys had a great time...are we allowed to touch moon rocks?

They are encased in plexiglass, so I guess not. They mentioned when they do handle the larger samples, they have those clean box thingies they use.

oh that's sad but ya even they have to preserve and protect them.

Science is awesome. Looks like you had a great day!

I lived in Chattanooga, TN for a year or two as a kid. Lovely state and phenomenal weather! Followed and upvoted. :)

Thanks for the follow! Always greatly appreciated.

No problem! You're welcome to follow me back if you like! :)

Haha. I rarely follow when someone asks for it (most usually earn it through great comments or posts I see being resteemed), but the potato shark tank episode hooked me.

Lol well I appreciate it! Crazy, right? Coworker told me about that company over lunch one day and I was both shocked and impressed.

Sounds like fun...too bad you can't touch them. I just posted about NASA, you should check it out https://steemit.com/photography/@scottland/one-bigger-leap-for-mankind

Great post! Upvoted and following to see what else you come up with.

Artificial Tsunami :O

It was quite interesting. :)

Glad you had a lovely day, thanks for sharing with us :)

Very nice post @lukestokes. I'm quite new to steemit and am still finding my way around however have found some excellent content so far. Thanks for sharing your words and images. Much appreciated.

Great! Steemit is a pretty amazing place. I've been here for almost a year, actively posting and commenting. I love it.
