Red moon
I simply cannot stop giggling when I think about this failed attempt of capturing the full lunar eclipse recently. I absolutely wasn’t prepared, had no right equipment, skills or knowledge of how to photograph anything in the dark with my DSLR camera. I kept thinking that any digital camera with good enough zoom would get better shot at it. So all I managed to get out of it is.. well, you will see.
First let me tell you, it was not easy to find the moon. When it was about the right time to start looking I could not see any sight of it due to cloud cover by the horizon. We took the car and drove to find better viewing spot with less light pollution and trees around. Still no luck.
As we turned around all bummed out for most likely missed chance of seeing anything, all of a sudden I noticed this red ish mist in the sky. No way! Is that Moon? Clouds cleared a tiny bit more revealing very Mars looking moon. Copycat much, Moon? Mars was there too just a little lower.
Isn’t this just one wonderful tiny red speck? Ahaha!
The sight in my binoculars was quite nice actually. Wish I had more tricks up my sleeve when it comes to photography in the dark though.

Song of the day: Lana Del Rey, A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti - Summer Bummer
lol...
At least you got to see it live! I missed it completely and had to be satisfied with Youtube videos after the fact. Sadness...
You know what you should get..?. A telescope! The thing I want to see next is photos of Andromeda ;) Thank you very much.
Tripod? Check
1200mm lens worth around 10K$? Check
Perfect cloudless spot on top of Kilimanjaro? Check
One can dream right? Steem just needs to go to the moon first, lol.
Moon or Kilimanjaro is okay too. :P
you ended up getting some pretty good shots of it! spectacular <3
Aww, that is very kind of you @mountainjewel! Thank you! :)
Hi m31. That was quite pathetic and maybe you should have just kept quiet. Maybe I should post mine as they make yours look very bad. Will do mine tonight just to rub them in.
Hi, @cryptoandcoffee! I think it is important to sometimes talk about the failures as well. No matter how pathetic something is or isn't. We are all here to learn and progress. Feedback, lesson learned and advice from other on this hopefully will help me to produce better results one day :)
Hi m31. Truth be told yours are not a failure. It is difficult to get something without a telescope. Normally nothing even shows up. I have read my comment again and the guys were right. i was out of order. I was teasing you and pulling your leg and it just came across as wrong. That was not my intention at all and I am sorry. There is another one in January and I am sure you will nail the next ones as you will have the tripod etc.
I wish I had a telescope. I would be spending a lot more time chasing things in the sky.
Don't worry about it ;)
Oh, that would be cool to have better shot at it than this for sure. January...will keep that in mind :)
Maybe you will get one for Christmas. They are not that expensive. I got a spotting scope for the game reserve and it was about 100 euros. I haven't got the attachment for the camera as I don't have one and maybe one day will get one. I have more important things to do before I splash out.
Are you sure you want to comment with such negativity? I do not know if you dislike her that much, but a comment like this is plain mean.
Hi apsu. I am playing. I don't mean anything by it. More like teasing that's all. I am sorry if it cam across as wrong. genuine I am not nasty at all.
I actually tease people I like. Don't take it the wrong way. I will remove comment if you think it is in poor taste.
I MISSED IT, EAST OF INDIA WAS CLOUDY
Thanks for Sharing
Yeah I probably missed most of it as well due to clouds. I was really glad to have caught even a little bit of the very strange looking moon.
:))
I have a 300mm lens and I tried to get sweet moon photos with it.
I was really surprised how small the moon is when taking a photo of it. Nice trick with the binoculars though :)
It did not work out either? Planning to share?
I actually turned the binoculars the other way round to get that effect. It did not work with the moon though, because there was not enough light.
I don't think Mars came to Nigeria. Maybe it did but I didn't bother to check it. Your pictures look good as far as am concerned. though I don't know which one is the moon or which is mars. 😂
Mars was rather low by the horizon, so it is possible it wasn't visible from your location. Not entirely sure.
Thank you :) In all of the photos it is Moon actually. Masking in the color of Mars. Haha.
That is terrible! ;P
Sounds like it was a bit of an adventure which makes it all worth it. My favourite picture here is of the car headlights, I think that has style.
All in all, I think the photos came out pretty good actually :)
So, so terrible! Lol
It was a tiny adventure :) Sometimes those are the best adventures, you know? How do you get those headlight photos where they continue in one line? Long exposure or something?
Thank you :) So much to learn. Always! ^^
All was not lost M and you learnt a few things which is never a bad thing dear so no, not a fail at all. Challenging oneself is okay, being overly hard on yourself, not okay. You put up really good pieces, feel some pride for that
