How to: Making Dope Spinach and Artichoke Pasta

in #photography7 years ago

Hey all you hungry steemians,

Today I decided to share with you a quick recipe to make on a cold winter day when you need something hearty and healthy. All ingredients are rough estimates and you can totally add whatever you'd like to spice if up yourself (I like adding mushrooms and jalapenos).

First off lets start with the ingredient list;

1 can of artichoke hearts
1 bag of spinach
1 box of pasta (anything will do)
4 Tbsp flour
4Tbsp butter
2 cups of cheddar (good quality)
1 cup milk
1 cup cream
pepper and red pepper flakes to taste

1st Step: Making the Roux

Melt the butter in a pot and slowly stir in the flour as the mixture browns over a few minutes. You want the mixture to come out a lightly browned color. Go by color more than time. This is the completion of the Roux.

2nd Step: Create cream sauce

Slowly add the milk and cream while constantly stirring the mixture and then bring to a boil. Once the boil starts immediately reduce the heat to a low setting. This is the point where you can add the pepper and red pepper flakes (and even salt if you are into that) to taste.

3rd: Turn that cream sauce to a cheese sauce

This is the point where you want to start adding the yummy yummy bag of cheddar cheese. This is the completion of the cheese sauce. The heat should be low and you should be constantly stirring that cheesy cheese in.

4th: Fixings

Put the pot of pasta to boil (in a separate pot, duh)
Heat the spinach in a pan to reduce the amount of moisture in the greens.
Drain the can of artichokes.

5th: Mixing

Drain the pasta and then add in the ingredients from the last step into the cheese sauce. At this point is should start smelling delectable.

6th (optional): Bake in oven with bread crumbs

You can now transfer the pasta into a baking pan and top with breadcrumbs and more cheese and then bake that sucker until the top is a nice golden brown.

Voila, you've done it! Serve with your favorite beverage and enjoy :)

P.S. Sorry some of the pics were blurry. I wanted them to be motion pics so you can see the stirring action but I couldn't figure out how to do that in Steemit. If anyone have any advice for this it would be much appreciated.
