Τhe wondrous sights of a Beekeeper; my uncle Andreas

It was not until recently, that I lost my beloved father, when I realized how much I have been ignoring the absolute wonderfulness of the people surrounding me. It was not until recently that I started noticing and paying attention to the parts of their personality that do not really interfere with me or my daily routine, are however representative of their greatness.

One of these people is my uncle Andreas. His ordinary work is construction related, but in his free time he is also active in voluntarism and politics through his engagement in various governing bodies and clubs of my mother’s (@sofi-m) homeland, Naxos island. Of course for the past weeks, he has left all that aside and doesn’t leave his cousin’s and nieces side to help them cope with their loss.

He knew I loved honey, so he brought me a jar of honey that although it was crystallized initially it tasted divinely. What I didn’t know was that he had collected it himself!!

What do you mean, when did you become a beekeeper?!

Time flies and interests change, and apparently my uncle has found great happiness being among bees. To be honest I don’t get it, I see a bee and run the opposite way, but he loves them. He admires them for the way they are committed to their community, unbelievably organized, bold, witty and insanely productive.

Of course, their productivity is measured in a collective manner. My uncle told me that each bee produces about 1 gram of honey during its lifetime. That doesn’t sound much does it?

Think about it every time you put a teaspoon of honey on your bread, your tea or your honey mustard source!

How many bees have spent their lives for a moment of pleasure in your mouth?

Or simply put for 60 calories?

When you think about this, consider that mankind has been collecting honey for about 15.000 years!

I think I am going to befriend those stingy insects as well… My uncle wants to convince me even further. He takes out his cell phone to show me recent and older pics he took during his visits to his beehives.

Uncle Andreas… you do realize that you take awesome photos, don’t you? These are definitely going up to Steemit!

I LOVE THOSE PHOTOS, I hope you like them too and it goes without saying that I am going to give him all the value of the post’s rewards if any. (He won’t understand where they really came from but he will make a good use of them to expand his bee operations – or maybe get a better camera?)

These are incredible photos. I love the details of the bees on the flowers - wow.

It is so good to hear you are connecting with your family. Uncle Andreas sounds like a humble, caring and intriguing man to spend time with.

Thank you for your comment @lydon.sipe, I am glad you like them!! He is indeed the sweetest man!

Beekeepers are special people!

I didn't know until I met one 😁

I told you before!

"I must my Brother's Keeper Bee
While he feels free to sting at me
And that is how I make my money
The Beekeepers, the reapers of the Honey."

It all boils down to the birds and the bees. Luckily bees make honey. The birds? They just poop on my head. lol

Do your brother be in Canada? with the cold how you preserve the bees?

I've never kept bees in Canada. But I'm sure a little ouzo could keep anyone warm.

The ouzo fits in all situations..especially if you are near to the sea..😀😀😀.

That's a wonderful person you have got in you life my dearest @marianda . I know it can be somehow strange to come to realize that you are not alone, on the contrary, you are very much loved, but we see the sun after having tasted the dark. Sweet honey for sour moments :) Liked that !

Congratulations to Andreas. I think your uncle is very good at this job. I would like to try the taste of honey.

I'll pass the congrats on to him! Thank you. I wish I could send some of this honey over the blockchain!

Such a wonderful and healthy hobby to have :) One who does fill the stomach and the soul... BEE-autiful photos! Respect to your uncle.

Yes, I was amazed too! Thank you @herverisson!

Bees are amazing because their waste product is the sweetest thing ever

It happens so many times that we are surprised about things we dont know from friends / family which are very close to us.
Actually a bit strange, but mostly just because we do not pay enough attention to others.
This is a lesson for me to be more aware, and put more energy in others.
About the bees, they are indeed so busy, we in Holland have a seeing “ bezige bij” ; and its true; those bees are always busy and working hard!

You are so right... we are always so busy with ourselves we don't pay attention to others.
Βtw I love Holland, I have been ten times already and it's never enough!

Great Post & Pictures!
I too love honey. Looks like a cool uncle you have.
Thanks for sharing & Steem On :)
