Luxury: is n´t it what we all want?
Big cars, a splendid house and someone who cleans the dishes for you?
Well, if you look at the origin of the word, you won´t like to have it at all:
Luxury is related to luxation , a medical expression meaning "dislocation of bone or joint".
It´s origin can be found in the greek word "loxos" and this means: "bent to the side, slanting, oblique".
Once luxury wasn´t the expression for wealth and spending a lot of money on things you like, as you can easily see. It describes something, that is at the wrong place.
Through the years the meaning has changed as in many cases.
Next week I will go on with my journey with interesting words that changed through the centuries.
If you have one word you like to have explained, put it in the comments and I will do my best to get an answer for you!
Appended is a minimal photo I took in Ibiza, an island I spent some weeks in wintertime.
It is not processed, mostly taken as it is.
This island is a wonderful spot to take photos and enjoy the mediterranean light.
