CAERNARFON CASTLE

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

This is my third in a series of posts to my visit to the Snowdonia National park in Wales where one day we traveled to Caernarfon for the afternoon and one of the first things I did was go and see the castle

I must admit that I was not very happy with my choice of camera lens I think it was a 50mm prime lens I couldn’t seem to get far enough back to get more in the pictures

Although I do intend going back in the summer because the train which takes you up mount swowdonia was closed at the time of year we went, so I will have the chance to use a different lens then

Plus another great reason for going back is I never actually went in side the castle everything was a bit rushed because most of us wanted to visit this next place

And as you can see from the advertising board it’s the smallest bar in Wales .
And after that we moved on to visit this place

Which was a great pub in fact it’s actually a hotel as well and it’s where we will be staying on the return visit .
Now back to the castle pictures

As you can imagine Caernarfon castle was a very expensive project and it’s believed to have cost around £22000 which around the time of 1287 was a lot of money considering that a tradesman wage was only 3p a day and that’s when the was 240p to the pound, in fact it is said it was more money than the treasury would have taken in a year in taxes.

Tradesmen and equipment where known to have come from Liverpool and as far as London and bear in mind the was no motorways back then

Interesting fact, Caernarfon was the birthplace of the first prince of Wales. Today we have Charles the Prince of Wales who is next in line to become king he still had to receive his formal title in a ceremony which still today takes place in Caernarfon castle

It's a very impressive castle. Considering it was built over seven hundred years ago, much of the castle remains intact.

Thanks for your post.

Thanks for popping in. Cheers mike

Looks a bit like the french occupied castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. :)
