Vitorchiano è un piccolo borgo medievale immerso nel verde sito nella provincia di Viterbo, nella regione centro-italiana del Lazio.
La città medievale di Vitorchiano è costruita lungo una roccia tufacea che domina un burrone; oggi la sua struttura è ancora intatta e fa di Vitorchiano una delle città più pittoresche della regione.
Si trova ai piedi dei Monti Cimini, verso la valle del Vezza.
Di origine etrusca, la città divenne una fortezza romana e poi fu trasformata in un centro urbano fortificato durante il Medioevo, grazie alla sua posizione su un alto picco di pietra lavica, praticamente inespugnabile.
Nel centro storico si può ammirare il palazzo del municipio con la torre dell'orologio e l'ex convento di Sant'Agnese.
Oggi Vitorchiano è famoso in tutto il mondo per l'estrazione e la lavorazione del peperino (una roccia magmatica).
Cose da vedere: Il centro storico, Chiesa di S. Maria, Municipio e Torre dell'Orologio, Fontana del fuso con i simboli dei Quattro Evangelisti, la porta Romana e le mura di Vitorchiano, Chiesa di S. Amanzio.

I began a Photo Journey through Italy. I will post one photo every day with a little note of explanation.

Vitorchiano is a small medieval town surrounded by greenery in the province of Viterbo, in the Central Italian region of Lazio.
The Medieval town of Vitorchiano is built along a tuffaceous rock overlooking a ravine; his structure is still intact today and that makes of Vitorchiano one of the more picturesque towns of the region.
It lies at the foot of the Cimini Mountains, towards the valley of the Vezza.
Of Etruscan origin, the city became a Roman fort and then was turned into a fortified urban center during the Middle Ages, due to its location on a high lava stone peak, virtually impregnable.
In the old town stands a handsome town hall with a clock tower and the former convent of Saint Agnese.
Today Vitorchiano is famous in all the world for the extraction and processing of the peperino stone.
Thing to see: The old town, Church of S. Maria, Town Hall and Clocktower, Main fountain with symbols of the Four Evangelists, Porta Romana and walls of Vitorchiano, Church of S. Amanzio.

E' un bel posto che merita una visita.
La costruzione della città sopra un ammasso tufaceo ricorda molto Orvieto ed Orte.
Tutti comunque paesi vicini a Vitorchiano.
Si, è vero hanno la stessa conformazione. Orvieto la visitai nella stessa vacanza proprio per la vicinanza alla zona della Tuscia.
