Sony A7 III Review & Features

The Sony A7 III is the best full-frame camera in terms of price / performance in terms of price and features.

Think of a machine. It has a full frame backlit 24MP sensor, can record 4K HDR video, can take 10 frames RAW at first, has 5 axis fixing system and can go up to 204.000 ISO, and this machine is under 2000 $. It's not a dream, we're really talking. Sony has tried to create an affordable full frame, but it has not been trivial at all. In this article, we examine Sony's affordable new monster A7 III.

How the Sony A7 III Revealed?

As we know, Sony has revolutionized the industry in the past years by releasing the Sony A7S II and Sony A7R II. Especially because of the iso and video performance of these machines, many users have sold their Canon and Nikon bodies and opted for these machines. As a result of these models, Sony became the second best selling camera maker in the United States by passing Nikon. A7 series and behind the competition Sony has waited a couple of years. The Canon 5D Mark IV with the Panasonic GH5 and the Nikon with the D850 came to Sony. Yes Sony has achieved great success, but it is far behind both brands in sports and action photography. Then they announced the Sony A9, the best machine they ever produced.

In advanced sports photography, Sony's machine prices were slightly higher than their counterparts. Particularly in the full-frame series it was difficult to compete with Canon's 6D Mark II for the price. Sony, on the other hand, announced the a7 iii model that it has designed for budget-friendly, professional and first-rate users, as never before. When we look at the specifications of the A7 iii model, we come across a lot of features from the Sony a9. In fact, for the Sony A7 III we can refer to the a9 as an affordable version.

Sensor and Processor

The Sony A7 III has a backlit (BSI) sensor at a resolution of 24.2 megapixels. Although this sensor has the same pixel value as the previous series a7 ii series, they do not use the same sensor. According to Sony's statement, this sensor was manufactured in a completely different technology from the previous model, which allows the camera to achieve a focal range of 15 fps in 14-bit raw photos, while the camera can be worth 209,000 ISO (equivalent to a9). Of course the 15 fStop dynamic is a bit of a mystery. If any brand offers 15 fStop dynamic range promise, we can see that cameras can provide less than 15 fStop dynamic range in later tests. For this reason, we will share our final judgment with you after we have thoroughly reviewed the camera in this regard.

The biggest supporter of the sensor is the Bionz X processor. The Bionz X processor allows the camera to take 10 frames at a time. Yes, you do not hear wrong 10 frames per second. Obviously we did not expect such a feature at this price level. Because of this feature, the a7 iii looks very ideal for sports and action photographers who do not have enough money to buy a9. Another proof that the A7 iii is also aimed at sports photography is support for dual SD cards. While one of the card slots supports UHS 1, we can only attach standard SD cards. This means that you can take plenty of photos without missing a moment in sports and wildlife photography. Sony has also introduced the internal memory feature that the a9 has announced along with the i7. The camera did not allow you to shoot again until the photos were written on the card, after you shot hundreds of photos earlier in the series. You had to wait at least 10-15 seconds to use the camera, and you could not look at the photos during the writing process. With this new built-in memory feature, you can take hundreds of photos in series and then look at the photos and continue shooting. In addition, when you remove the card you are currently using at the time of processing the card, and the new card is inserted, the camera takes over the rest of the card.

Body Features

Touch screen

Same Design as A7R III

Extra Durability Against Tobacco and Water

Like all camera series, the Sony a7 series had some shortcomings. All other competitors offered touch screen models while the a7 series remained behind. Now we're starting to see the touchscreen feature on Sony's new machines. Used in the Sony a9, a7r iii and a7 iii models, this touchscreen is not touch-accurate and allows us to select the sharpness point by using the screen as a touchpad while in visibility, but we can not use the touchscreen while navigating through the menu.

If we look at the body structure of the A7 iii, it is possible to see classic Sony lines. This body is identical to the new A7R iii. The difference with the previous series is a new joystick. This joystick has a distinct place in the heart of professional users, allowing me to quickly navigate through the focus points. In addition, Sony adds that this trunk structure is more resistant to rainfall than traditional models.
