THE NIGERIAN (AFRICAN) WEDDING
In Africa, Nigeria to be precise, getting married involves three stages
**1.Introduction: ** this is the first process of marriage in Nigeria, the groom will have to visit the bride parents with his kinsmen to formally introduced themselves to the bride's parents. This is usually done with little refreshment.
2.Traditional Marriage: As the name implies, it's simple a wedding/marriage done in a traditional way.
This is the second process of a Nigerian marriage, the groom will have to travel with his kinsmen, family, friends and we'll wishers, to the bride's father's compound ( usually done in the home town of the bride). the groom will have to process into the venue, in grand style with escort of his grooms men in their native wears (this is optional)
In this wedding lots of traditional rites, will be performed including, paying of the bride price, the bride will be escorted by her asoebi ladies (traditional brides maid),
and will be give a palm wine (local wine) in a native cup, by her father to show the entire guests her husband,
whoever she hands over the palm wine to automatically becomes her husband,
afterwards the father of the bride will bless their union.
the party begins.
3.White wedding (wedding proper):
This is the last process of a Nigerian marriage, it is done in the church or a court, or wherever place as planned by the couples, this is the holy matrimony joining of the bride to the groom
Next post will be blogging extensively on how a Nigerian introduction as the first process of marriage is carried out.
