When you are trying to get a pet adopted the most important thing you can do is make them look nice for the photo. You need the dog to look inviting to a family who could possibly adopt him.

There are several ways to do this, all are great options depending on your type of dog. Please remember, you are not going to get this photo in the first take. Dog’s don’t quite understand the concept of sitting still.

1. Make Sure Your Dog Is in Good Mood

The first tip would be to make sure that he or she is in good mood. People can sense when the dogs look upset in the photo. You want the animal that you are trying to make presentable to look like a friendly dog. You might want to try petting the dog first or doing something else to make him happy. Make sure he is well fed before he has his picture taken if he's not, this could be something that will upset him.

2. Use Bandanna

Another key idea when it comes to photography tips for pets is, off course, the bandanna. When you put a cloth on a dog it makes him seem more domestic. Even though he may have been living on the streets for a while or something to that effect. It will give the people who might adopt him the sense that this dog has some civility.

3. Check the Lighting

Why not take a picture outside where it's nice and bright? This will make the dog seem brighter and more attractive. Everyone knows that this is a needed tip for bigger dogs because they might seem scary to some. A nice and bright sunny day will help the dog come off as his non-threatening self, not to mention it will make the photo look bright, clear and fantastic.

4. Avoid Distraction from Other Animals

You want to try and make sure that you take the photo somewhere there are not a lot of animals around. This could prove distracting for our fuzzy friends. They might get to caught up in the other animal to even focus on taking a good picture. If they don’t try to run away chasing after it. Also, it will cause them to bark during the photo and most people who are looking to adopt hate that trait.

5. Why Not Use a Pillow?

If you have a smaller dog you might want to show off just how small and cute it is. Why not take a picture of it on a pillow? This is a great way to get your dog looking soft and huggable. Little girls will want your puppy if they think they can make it it’s own pillow bed!

6. Why Not Dress It Up?

If it's around Halloween why not dress it up? Any other time I would not recommend this because of course the dogs hate it and it can look tacky. Dressing them up in a Halloween costume while its Halloween is a perfect idea though.

7. Pay Attention to the Time of Year and Have Fun with That

You can also have fun with Christmas when taking pictures of dogs that you need families for. You can put them in a little Christmas present box and tie a bow around their head. That will make the family think of the dog as their new little gift this year. Why not pay attention to the time of year and have fun with that?

I hope you find the perfect picture to get your little critter a home! Just remember, there isn’t a dog that you can’t make look good if you really know how to try. Why not take the photos and see what you can do? Why not? I hope you enjoyed these photography tips for pets.
