Walking in a 1680's city (Part 2) | Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Basilica del Santisimo Sacramento, one of the oldest churches of Uruguay. It was reconstructed numerous times due to diferent belic accidents and a lightling storm. (This territori was disputed between Spain and Portugal from it's foundation in 1680 to 1822)

Ruins of the 17th century Convent of San Francisco, it's now the house of numerous pigeons.

Beautiful photos, but I'd love to get some more context on them. What am I looking at here? What is the history behind these buildings?
