On Eid al-Fitr or Eid, Indonesians celebrate with different traditions in each region. One of the regions in Indonesia that is very thick with Islamic teachings, namely Aceh, carries out a tradition called Meugang.

Meugang is a tradition in which people in Aceh will buy beef, then cook it, and then eat it with their families. Not infrequently this celebration also invites neighbors, orphans, and the poor to enjoy a meal together.

This makmeugang or meugang is indeed no stranger to the people of Aceh. This is a unique tradition that the people of Aceh have to welcome the big holidays of Islam, namely before entering the month of Ramdhan, Eid Al-Fitr, and Eid Al-Adha.

The history of the makmeugang dates back to the kingdom of Aceh. At the time of Sultan Iskandar Muda's leadership in the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam, he wanted to carry out the makmeugang tradition , The Sultan ordered the palace officials to distribute meat to the people.

The meat is also distributed to give priority to the people who are more in need, such as the poor. This tradition then continues to be passed on to the next royal leadership, which has been passed down from generation to generation until now.

Even during the Dutch colonial period, this tradition was still carried out by the people of Aceh. This was done by village leaders allied with the Dutch distributing the meat to the people.
This tradition will indeed be timeless because it continues to be cultivated today. This tradition, which has existed since the days of the Aceh kingdom, is hundreds of years old.

The lessons learned from the makmeugang tradition will be very useful in everyday life. Sharing with others or people who need life is a very positive value.

This was also done by the Sultan to make all the people equally able to welcome the month of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha. With the distribution of free meat, the whole community can enjoy it.

Even today, the goal of the Sultan must continue to be made to enable people in need to enjoy meat no matter what. The people of Aceh are very happy to welcome it every year.

Indonesian culture, which is known to the people by working together and copying, please help, this is proven by the existence of this tradition. This cultural heritage provides extraordinary social value to all its citizens, so it must continue to be preserved.

Thank you for your visit, have a nice day.
