A missed shot of a reader

Not all photos I take are winners.
In fact, less than 10% can be said to be "ok". I am not sure I ever took a GOOD photograph yet. But, I am at the start so...who knows, there's still hope for me.

I took this one on a very sunny day.
I wanted to catch this really really intense reader on a bench alone in good lighting.

Yet, the photo is a little washed up, and it seems to have no point to me. A guy reading...

I am not sure what I could have done better, but I AM SURE that getting closer would have made for a better shot. Try to catch an interesting angle and snap a fast one. This is difficult to do as people will react to the camera. But I start to believe that trying and failing is better than this!
