Hornet Macro Shots

I found a confused hornet in our house. But she was definitely a little groggy, because the animal could crawl only and wasn't able to fly anymore. For me this was the perfect moment to take a few macro shots of this scary insect.

After the photo session, of course I released the almost defenseless animal back to nature.

Ein Hornisse hatte ich in unser Haus verirrt. Sie war aber eindeutig schon etwas angeschlagen, da das Tier nur noch krabbeln und nicht mehr fliegen konnte. Das war für mich natürlich die perfekte Möglichkeit ein paar Makroaufnahmen von diesem Angst einflößenden Insekt zu machen.

Im Anschluss an die Fotosession habe ich das fast wehrlose Tier natürlich wieder in der freien Natur ausgesetzt.

A saying tells that "7 stitches kill a horse, 3 stitches a man", but that's not true. I checked how dangerous the hornets really are and found out that the amount of poison released is about the same as in a wasp sting. Deaths are reported here at about 300 stitches.

Ein Sprichwort sagt „7 Stiche töten ein Pferd, 3 Stiche einen Menschen“, aber das stimmt nicht. Ich habe dann auch gleich mal nachgeschlagen, wie gefährlich die Hornissen nun wirklich sind. Die abgegebene Giftmenge entspricht etwa der gleichen wie bei einem Wespenstich und hier wird von Todesfällen ab etwa 300 Stichen berichtet.
