Hong Kong in panorama, on street level.

Hong Kong has anything and everything. You have your touristy sites where you'd queue an hour or so to ride a train. You have your super fancy posh places that will bend over backwards to cater to your every need...Instagram is littered with trendy touristy crap like that.

Then you have the streets.

Down here on street level, it is still every bit as dystopian and ghost in the shell as it ever was.

But it's not all a miserable dystopian,... You'd be wrong to think that it was all misery. Granted there is quite a bit,...

but it's less about wallowing in existential angst and more about getting on with the job of not being here forever.

And for that reason alone, Hong Kong is a street photographer's wet dream.

Yes people will register you waving your camera about, but 1) they are so busy moving about that you hardly ever get hassled about it, and 2) you might get yelled at, but they quickly ignore you and go back to what they were doing which is mostly moving about.

And 3) they seem so used to tourists that cameras, even my odd looking widelux, is just something you see all the time...

Making shooting up close not a big deal.

For the shot above, the subway being quite dark, I had the camera set to 1/15 which takes 3 seconds to complete an exposure.

If you haven't already, put it on your list of places to shoot. Don't be put off by the high-rises and the fancy luxury stuff,... Down here on street level, this is where life in Hong Kong is lived.

Hong Kong should be experienced rather than read about so here are a few more from my widelux 😊
