Kayaking Four Mile Bayou - original photography

So, Ammon convinced me to get in a kayak and paddle around the swamp.

A swamp with all the usual swamp suspects like alligators and poisonous snakes. Now, in a situation like this my mind can’t rest so why not up the anty and bring along my favorite DSLR and a 50 1.4 lens.

Ammon lives here and does this all the time, meanwhile I am taking this photo while my kayak is going the other direction and wobbling back and forth because I didn’t know how to steer or relax.

That’s where the gators live. Or so I am told. I will never know folks, that’s as close as I am ever gonna get.

I did venture into some groves only to be smothered with spiderwebs and quickly retreat. We’ll quickly nothing, I wobbled out like a rookie but my heart was cranking.

This is Ammon and his houseboat neighbor, Jim. They were just cruising along so fast and steady with such ease. Braggers.

I ran dead straight into this tree. Zero attempt to steer around or slow down, Jim and Ammon laughed about that for 20 mins.

Possible unflattering evidence might already be on the web.

Honestly, it was a blast. I’ll get better at steering and not freaking out when a fish jumps anywhere near me. Baby steps.

There isn’t any dry land. Just swamp cyprus and water plants. Beautifully frightful isn’t it?

Tree marked with a private property sign. Someone owns the fishing and hunting rights past that tree into the swamp. There are wild Cajuns here. Lance @voder has been focusing on people photography. They sure know how to have a good time. More on them later.

I’m in love with the photo ops. And I am willing to risk my sanity again. Lance took this photo of me already having a minor panic 15 feet into the adventure.

I’ll get better.

Love the shots!

Total compliment from you Sir! Thanks for checking it out.

Most welcome Sloe!

I know exactly what you were going through. The wobbles disappear after a while as you find your balance and relax. I never had alligators and snakes around though so you had added pressure. A great experience and some great photos.

You know the wobbles too huh?! Haha. Thanks so much for the kind comment, it’s appreciated.

So beautiful. So peaceful.

Wonderful shots @sloe ammon did a great job in convincing you to go and explore the swamp. Those trees looks beautiful and mysterious with the water reflecting sunlight. What are they called?

Not exactly sure, the locals just call them swamp cypress. I really love the Spanish moss that hangs from them.

Swamps are not my favorite environment by a long shot, but I must admit you made this one look atractive (except for the black and white photos, tthose ones make it look scary).
I applaud your common sense in not wanting to venture into gatorland.
In any case, next time try a drone and stay on the road, in your car while the drone does all the picture taking :)

Looks like you had quite an adventure :) That place looks amazing but scary as well. Gators are not my favorite at all and I prefer to stay away from them but the rest is absolutely beautiful.
I've never been kayaking, so that would be an adventure for me but the beauty of a place like this might convince me to try it out. I love the second photo the most, that tree is a real beauty.
Congratulations for the nice photos and for the curie and I'm glad you had fun :)

Thanks for stopping by @erikah
I appreciate your thoughts. The second image is one of my favorites too.

My pleasure! It is really a pleasure and a great opportunity to see the world. I hope there is more to come 🙂

Hi @sloe,

A journey it was! Thanks for your kind words.

Wauw, that's some experience @sloe!
It really looks very peaceful there. I can imagine it is way more beautiful than the photographs can tell us. Seems like you guys had a very good time there. Thanks for sharing this!
