We raise black swallowtails and monarchs ourselves! We've got over 250 monarch eggs by now. You're right... they're out in full force :)

Thats very intresting, how do you raise them and care for them? Do you release them when they hatch from the cocoons?

We find them from eggs on milkweed for monarchs, mainly spicebush for swallowtails. They're kept in special containers where they hatch, eat, and grow, eventually making chrysalis' and hatching into butterflies! Taking care of them is relatively easy, you just need an area where predators will not harm them and enough food for them to eat and grow!

Yep, once hatched fully and developed, they take a few hours to dry off, and then they're released into the wild!

The chrysalis' actually make really cool gifts for friends and family, as long as they're taken care of.

I'm trying to make a big post about them, but so far writing it has been a challenge, hahaha :)

Thats very cool. I may have to try that once.

Great shots! I was out mowing my property most of the day and I don't recall seeing a single butterfly. I did see lots of musquitoes though grrr.

Thank you, butterflys are much better than mosquitos!

Beautiful!

Wonderful set of butterfly photos. The light on that last one is perfect, the way the backlighting makes the wings glow and produces the silhouette of the body is wonderful.

Cheers,
