Tasmania Tiger Search
Hi, I started searching for the Tasmanian Tiger in 2013.
Due to time and money constraints I started by search in the Lake Mackenzie area of north central plateau of Tasmania. This area was historically an area where Tasmanian Tigers were captured during the bounty scheme up to the early 1930's.
This area is still relatively untouched by humans except for hydroelectric works. The area is frequented by fisherman and bush walkers.
I initially set up 12 trail cams in this area and collected them 3 months later.
You can see from the photo's that the area is rugged and it would be difficult to get a clear photo of a Tasmanian Tiger.
The biggest issue I faced was where to place the trail cams as there are literally thousands of animal trails and the likely hood of a lone Tasmania Tiger travelling any one of them is remote.
As you can see from the above photo's the area is rugged and I found it difficult to find suitable trees to mount the trail cams too.
This was my camp. I was one of the first people to invest in the Biolite camp stove kickstarter and I received my stove before this trip. This was the first time I used it in the field.
As you can see from this photo I had to get creative with my trail cam placement. This cam was placed on the roots of a fallen tree.
I ended up making my own trail camera stands so that I could place the camera's exactly where I wanted to.
Thankyou for taking the time to take to stop by and read this post.
Regards
Baz!
This is really cool! I'm looking forward to seeing more posts about your search for the Tasmanian Tiger! I've actually written a few posts about this animal here on Steemit myself, but sadly I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to them being alive. However, nothing would make me more happy than being proven wrong on this!
I wish you the very best of luck in your search :)

Hi, and welcome to steemit Basil.
I'm really looking forward to following your journey to documenting the Tasmanian Tiger. It's a fascinating animal that we don't hear much about.
I hope your cams capture some good footage.
Thankyou for you thoughts. I really hope they are still around.
