Sight Comparison - with and without Burqa

Hallo Friends,

Today, I am posting some of the photographs from my Burqa Photo Album. These conceptual photographs were created back in 2013 in support of the rights for Afghan Women. Since then, these photographs are exhibited both in a group and solo exhibitions internationally.

Afghan women are not allowed to see the outside world because their world is limited within the four walls of their own houses. However, if there is any necessity for them to go out, they are forced to wear Burqa.
A Burqa has its own conditions of wearing it, such as, it must be large enough to cover the whole body of the women, the cloth must not be thin, the cloth must not be decorated and colourful, the fabric must be thick enough to prevent the seditious limbs from being noticed, adoring and colourful cloths must not be worn under the Burqa, the women should not wear perfume or wear garments and footwear that produces sound…

I bought a Burqa for some of my staged works. I tried it on and found that a Burqa is not only about covering the whole body with all those conditions of wearing that is mentioned above but it also leaves a small webbed screen to see through. For me it was really difficult to breath inside, it was difficult to have a full frame sight, and difficult to see my right and left sides, I felt more like a blinkered horse.

With these photographs I want to make a sight comparison and show how it looks through a Burqa veil and how difficult it is to see through it. And question those who force wearing Burqa on women that “What would be your reaction if you are forced to wear one?”
