Bow Bridge Central park
Bow Bridge Central Park
The Bow Bridge in Central Park is perhaps one of the most well known bridges in the park and has been featured in many TV shows and movies including Manhattan, The Way We Were and Keeping the Faith. and in this post I will share a few shots of it, starting with a shot many take of it with the almost mirror-like reflections on a calm day.

Bow Bridge is 87 feet long and crosses over a water feature called The Lake, the bridge is made of cast iron and designed by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould, the walkway on the bridge is made of ipe, a South American hardwood that turns a rich deep red when wet.

And interesting bit of info about the bridge and the urns you can see in the previous shot, in 2008, eight three and a half foot tall planting urns were returned to the Bridge through historic reconstruction almost 80 years after the original ones went missing.

Thanks it is such a cool bridge with such character
pleasure for the eyes...it seems to me when we are exhausted, we ned just to look at these photos (if we can't go to this very place), and we'll be recharged
did it work for you?
Thats so nice of you to say and yes indeed it works for me as well :) 👍
How did you get photos with no one on it? Seems like a place that would always have traffic.
LOl the secret is going there early, there were maybe 4 people total walke dover it while I was there this was around 7AM in the morning
Nice shots. That is crazy that it is cast iron. I would have guessed it was stone from the far away shots!
Yes I was surprised when I first read that it was cast iron as well
Great shots Jay, do they know where those urns went? were they
Stolen then returned, or just re-created?
They were damaged and worn down and taken away and eventually restored from what I read
Thanks for the update, it is good to know that, at least in
THIS case, it wasn't due to some malfeasance
Yes indeed but it sure took a while
Thanks I always appreciate the support and resteem
What an amazing bridge. Still holds its beauty after 80 year.
Ohh yes indeed it has such character and style :)
