Pinoy Philippine Supermarket | A glimpse of what's inside. | Mobile Photography Series
Hi Steemit friends, with this series I'm going to bring you and show you some of the things that you will see in a typical Pinoy Supermarket and some of the terms that people are using when you get to talk to people.
So after our basketball game yesterday, me and my wife drove directly to get some of the staple food that we need in the next few days.
With STEEMIT playing on my mind, I was thinking how I can get to incorporate the time STEEMing, and voila!
My thought was to incorporate the FIRST FORM OF ART that we learned in school to mobile photography, these are
PATTERNs, LINEs, SHAPES, and COLOR of course, wait SHADOWs also, don't tell me you haven't tried playing with your hand reflected on the wall with forms like birds or animals. :)
All of these photos were taken by my humble Asus Z011D using one hand only, I have to carry a basket with what we bought on the other hand.
If you're planning to visit Philippines and you want to experience what a typical supermarket is, this will give a little hint, what to expect and how everything is in place everyday.
DISCLAIMER: Friend, I'm not a cook, but I love to eat! lol
Enjoy reading guys!
So here it is!
To start with, most of the supermarkets are located near highways, I think this started on the first progressive days of the Philippines where there was no enough transportation from point A to point B.
If you don't have a car and you want to go to the market anytime, don't worry we have what we called "HABAL- HABAL"
These are brave drivers who dare to bring people from all sorts of life to their destination.
Once you get to your drop point, most supermarket are constructed in way that there should be proper ventilation and not all, but most supermarkets now have steel trusses.
Inside you have to blend yourself with other people. People who doesn't care if they walk in front of you or worst bump and step on you. It's recommended to wear slippers not snickers.
One of the best technology you will see in the supermarket is how their electric meter are organize in one place.
Enough with the introduction here are some of the things that you will see inside,
"HOT CAKE" in some countries they call it PAN CAKE, I don't know the difference. Typical color of a HOT CAKE in the Philippines is Yellow. This cost around Php 5.00.
BULAD or Dried Fish 1/4 kl at Php140
One of the best partner of our native SUKA or vinegar, dipped in hot chilli!
Common fish like Tulingan, here I captured my wife's face turning back from the vendor after she was not given a discount. Yes, Filipinos love discount. We got to call some of the vendors , as KI or SUKI. ( A person you always go to to get some goods).
Crabs, Oh yes crabs! We tied them up here. Php 500/kl.
The Filipino smile, Yes, you need it when you want to get a discount. LOL.
Philippines like any other Asian countries is home to different shells. Here is one of them. Price at 120/GANTANG or you call it small plastic container.
One of the shells that gives the best soup.
Filipinos love to cook with some spices and herbs. ( herbs?) Here is a typical vegetable stall. Some sell other cooking needs.
ADIDAS, not the shoes, but its a CHICKEN FEET, lol. One of the street food found in the Philippines. Price at 10Php/ 3 Feet once cooked like Barbecue.
Longganisa and Chorizo
I don't know where the name came from, but these are one of the best breakfast foods partnered with eggs.
They're both made from grind pork meat, contained inside a pork intestine.
Here's how they make it.
Pork and Fish Stall
The Electric Fly Defender
Most stalls are installed with this keeping the flies and other insects from fish and meat stalls.
The Light Bulb, most stalls are lit up with bulbs, they illuminate the entire market.
Beggars, like these kids, not all the time but there are instances wherein you get to meet them asking for little money.
Here are their faces after ,
-When I said I'm not going to give them any.
-When I said I'm going to take a photo of them.
-When I said, smile I'm going to give them Php 5.00 , sadly I only have 1 peso coin. lol.
It's always recommended that you start with the wet goods first then the dried goods.
So after we have all the fish and meat that we need, we then start looking for some dried goods.
Filipinos love noodles. I think we inherit this from our Chinese Ancestors.
If you have a Filipino friend, ask them about what's our staple food. Its always been rice and fish. Yes! We eat rice 3 times a day.
Thanks to our rice farmers.
On your way home or even when you get to start buying you will get to meet different stand,
The Fruit Stand
The Ukay2x Stand - Ukay2x or UK they call it, are second hand clothes and shoes from different countries.
There are other vendors also selling watches, toys and even shirts.
Once you have all that you need, before you go home you will pass by some of the street food vendor,
The Famous Tempura made from grind fish.
Most Filipinos are Roman Catholic, like this Rose vendor, you commonly see them during Sundays as most Filipinos go to the market after Church.
These roses are offered to our saints.
Till our next mobile photography series!
Enjoy! If you're a Filipino and wants to share this as part of our culture, please resteem! :)
nice post!
