Each Buccaneer has a specific job like on the real ship. To collect full crew you need 9 of them including the captain. When you got your crew you can claim a ship on the website for free.
You can Take Aboard up to 20 buccaneers at the time. They'll be distributed in sequential order from #1, with random jobs allocation to each character. After you get your Buccaneers you can trade them on OpenSea to gather your first crew.
