The Plague is one of the most famous novels written by the French writer Albert Camus.
This novel occupies an important place in French and world literature.
In it, the writer describes the Algerian city of Oran, where the plague epidemic spread. At the beginning of the novel, the relevant authorities in the city resort to taking a package of preventive measures and measures to limit the spread of the plague, including imposing a curfew
and closing the city completely to become isolated from other cities.
In addition, the government suggested the issue of throwing the bodies into the sea in the event that the number of the dead increased at a high rate because the city cemetery no longer accommodated more deaths.
It is ceremonies and matters relating to burial and death have been cancelled. In addition, citizens were living in a state of poverty and misery,
unemployment rates increased to reach record numbers, and scenes of long queues abounded in front of shops and stores.
As for the church, it tried to resist the plague in its own way by organizing prayers and mass on Saturdays and Sundays of every week.
As for the citizens of this city, they were anxiously waiting for an imminent end to the plague and could no longer bear this reality imposed on it.
Therefore, many confrontations took place at the main gate of the city between the policemen and the citizens who were trying to escape outside the city.
Including journalist Rampier, who repeatedly tried to escape to meet his girlfriend in Paris, but to no avail.
At the end of the novel, the writer mentions that people were bored with the routine of daily life and the preventive measures and measures related to the plague,
so they became disinterested in the numbers and statistics published by newspapers, and they
dealt with all this with indifference and spontaneity, and pretended to care about all that news, wishing an imminent and inevitable end to the plague.
